Welcome! This is http://www.rasterware.com/ - the personal website of Rahul Mittal.

Having problems viewing this website? It was written to conform to the W3C XHTML 1.0 specification but some brower-specific stylesheet tags had to be used, specifically for Internet Explorer 6.0 (IE6). When IE7 was released, this page would no longer work, and I was unable to look into the reasons in sufficient detail. I have basically tweaked the stylesheets so that IE7 now offers a readable rendering of this website. However certain other browsers may still not work (e.g. the scrollbar may not show up in Opera), and certain HTML elements are placed in unintended locations even by IE7. Until I perform a more thorough investigation and fix, please browse this website using IE7, especially if you are having problems with any other browser.

News

28.Jan.2008 - I am currently extremely busy with my thesis and course work, and shall be unable to make any significant updates to this website until at least Summer 2008. As the last few months of my graduate studies wind down, I have begun my search for a suitable job. Some of my past work is showcased here on my website, so this note is to inform potential recruiters that this website isn't dead, despite the really old news below!

27.Sep.2003 - Added the ability for visitors to add comments to each blog entry, which Blogger unfortunately doesn't provide. The stylesheets/formatting for comments still need some working on, but the overall mechanism should be working now. The system should also automatically fire me an email every time anybody adds a comment. This way you can be sure you are getting through to me. I started with the code and database provided by Martijn ten Napel and modified it for use on this website.

25.Sep.2003 - Added the Blog section. Now you can keep track of my musings and failings as I wind down the highway of life.

25.Sep.2003 - I've changed internet hosting providers. I am now with Exa-Bytes Network. Exa-Bytes is a Malaysian company but its excellent data center is located in Colorado. Among other reasons, the shared hosting options at Exa-Bytes are just what I was looking for - Windows Server 2003 with full ASP.NET support (which is necessary for my upgrade project), much better response time from the servers, the wonderful Helm control panel, a very responsive support staff, all for $76.50 a year. So, please forgive the automatic redirections that I have installed at my previous hosting company. In return, you should receive a much better browsing experience at this website.

30.Jun.2003 - Released a mini-paper that is still a work-in-progress titled "On the Quantitative Evolution of the Harry Potter Books". You may find the paper here.

12.May.2003 - Released Slyberoam 0.4.0.0. Slyberoam now promptly resumes any disconnections and is able to automatically detect the protocol version used by your ISP's network. Other enhancements include a even more simplified installation process, and better logging.

20.Apr.2003 - Released Slyberoam 0.2 Build 1205. Some parts of the previously long and tedious installation process have been simplified and automated. This release should also fix any installation issues on Win95/98/NT. The configuration tool has also been made more robust.

18.Apr.2003 - Released Slyberoam 0.2. Read through the rather long installation instructions, and let me know if you have any troubles. This release partially fixes the problems with IP header mangling.

10.Apr.2003 - I know I have been talking about doing a major upgrade to my website, but unfortunately I have been so busy with work and academics that I have not progressed very far. However, for now, I am simply posting the specifications for my new website. If you know any software provider that has software that fulfills all of the requirements mentioned in my specification, contact me! Also, if you are building your own website using ASP.NET and have similar requirements to mine, perhaps we could collaborate.

20.Feb.2003 - Released Odin 0.3.

17.Feb.2003 - Added a section for the Bagel which is an effort to bring together people in the Bangalore area who are interested in playing networked multiplayer computer games. If you are interested in participating as a gamer or as an organizer, please visit the above website or contact bagel@rasteroid.com.

14.Aug.2002 - I am currently trying to implement server side scripts that will help me maintain this website more effectively. I am working on an HTML based webpage editor and a news/articles posting module. I am also experimenting with updating this website to using ASP.NET, but there is still a lot of work before that can happen. Thanks for visiting and feel free to contact me.

18.Oct.2001 - I forgot to mention yesterday that I restructured the database that this site is running from, so all the counters have been reset to 0. Also, I am now displaying the hit frequency of each individual page (f) as well as the total number of visits to the entire site as a whole (t). The format for this display is "f-t" at the lower left corner of each webpage.
